Grad’s Film Screens in LAMay 5, 2010, Calgary, Alberta: Smita Acharyya, SAIT’s 2009 Outstanding Young Alumna Award recipient, has a new honour to add to her growing list of achievements. Acharyya’s short film, Sorry Girl, will screen on May 6 at the Los Angeles Comedy Festival. According to festival promotions, the event offers “the best sketch, improv, standup and film from LA, nationally and around the globe.” About the Movie Sorry Girl follows a woman who can’t stop apologizing. Every time she does, she gets an electric shock from the collar around her neck. Acharyya developed the story at the prestigious Women in the Director’s Chair workshop in Banff and won Best Screenwriter, Drama under 30 Minutes, at the 2009 Alberta Film and Television Awards. About the Outstanding Young Alumni Award (launched in 2009) The award is presented annually to a SAIT alumnus/a who has: - Graduated from SAIT in the last 10 years and is 35 years or younger
- Proven leadership skills
- Exceptional achievements in their field of endeavour
- Made outstanding contributions to the community.
