Event showcases students’ ingenuity and innovationApril 15, 2010, Calgary, Alberta – What do cattle and paramedics have in common? Usually not much, but both will benefit from projects on display today at the School of Manufacturing and Automation Student Project Showcase. Taking place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the main foyer of the Thomas Riley Building, the showcase is held in conjunction with the School of Manufacturing and Automation’s Annual Manufacturers Appreciation event. “The showcase provides a venue for students to show off the great work they have done,” says Brad Donaldson, Dean of the School of Manufacturing and Automation. “There is such a range of topics and innovation used that each project brings its own unique blend of creativity, hard work and enthusiasm.” Project teams worked together to help solve mechanical design issues for actual clients such as the Canadian Cattle Identification Agency and Alberta Health Services. Student projects include a new laptop case for ambulances, an improved cattle ear tag device and even a safer baby crib. A new prototype for a garage door system and a robot built by students will also be on display at the showcase. “The showcase is a great way to see the amazing work Manufacturing & Automation students do and to get a real appreciation of the ingenuity and innovation they possess,” says Donaldson. “These students are the ones that will be leading the growth and creating the opportunities for our economy in the future.” Media inquiries, please contact: Carly McConachie, SAIT Corporate Communications Bus: (403) 284-7167
